Former Black Stars captain, Asamoah Gyan, has expressed disappointment at the way he is treated by Ghanaians. The country all-time top scorer also holds the record as the most capped player for the senior national team.

However, Gyan feels he has not been celebrated enough despite all his achievements with the Black Stars.

No, I don’t think [Ghanaians] have celebrated me enough,” Gyan said on the Dentaa show.

There are a lot of people who come on social media to disrespect me. They say a lot of things but they know the truth. “One thing about Ghanaians is they know the right thing, instead of them putting it out there, they will not do it. But when foreigners praise theirs, that is where they [Ghanaians] bring their star to compare.”

Asamoah Gyan is the African player with the most goals at the FIFA World Cup, having scored six in three tournaments.

The 36-year-old is eyeing a return to the senior national team ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar later this year.

The legendary Ghanaian forward last played for Ghana Premier League outfit Legon Cities. He made only five appearances for the Royals in the 2020/21 season.
