Match Report:Jadon Sancho, Rashford Score as Erik Ten Hag Wins First Premier League Match

Erik ten Hag has finally secured his first Premier League win after Manchester United seeing off rivals Liverpool at Old Trafford on Monday night, August 22.

United were looking to get their campaign on track during their meeting with Liverpool, having lost their first two opening matches of the new season. The Red Devils began the season on a disappointing note, suffering a 2-1 defeat against Brighton at Old Trafford.

They followed up the result with a 4-0 humiliation at Brentford, with the result initially condemning them to the bottom of the log. Therefore, the Monday clash against Liverpool presented them with a glorious opportunity to arrest their poor run.

Ten Hag made some bold calls during Liverpool's meeting on Monday night, with the Dutchman benching Harry Maguire and Cristiano Ronaldo.

His team selection paid off in the 16th minute when Jadon Sancho broke the deadlock with a fine finish after he was set up by Anthony Elanga. Bruno Fernandes nearly ruined United's brilliant start in the closing stages of the first half as he almost directed the ball into his own net before Lisandro Martinez chipped in with a clearance.

The second half of the match saw the hosts double their advantage through Marcus Rashford, who slammed the ball confidently into the bottom left after he was set up by Anthony Martial in the 53rd minute. Efforts by Liverpool to stage a comeback paid off in the 82nd minute of the tie as Mohamed Salah drew one back with a powerful header. The match eventually finished 2-1 in favour of United, who will now be hoping to build on the momentum.
