Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has hailed his former club for their latest transfer business in acquiring Casemiro, but insists the club might have overpaid to get the midfielder. Casemiro, who has been at Real Madrid since 2013, is set to sign a four-year deal at Old Trafford, with United set to cough up a fee of £60m which will certainly rise after add-ons.
In addition, Casemio is set to become one of United’s top earners at the club, only coming behind David De Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo. Ferdinand, who played for United from 2002 to 2014, said Casemiro was exactly what United needed, but also questioned the fee United are paying for the 30-year old.
'Wow, listen man... that's the type of player Man United need, the type of character Man United need more than anything,' Ferdinand said via his Youtube Channel. 'He's the type of person, individual. Is he overpriced? Yes.'
Ferdinand however made sure to also state the positives of the transfer, saying United were getting a real winner in Casemiro.
'First and foremost, the guy's a real winner, he knows how to win, he's been integral in everything positive about Real Madrid in recent years. '[He has been] one of the main guys alongside the likes of Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Karim Benzema.' United are now almost certain of ending their interest in Frenkie De Jong. Casemiro’s transfer however comes too late for him to feature in the derby against Liverpool on Monday, August 22.
